Naming a 3rd Child is HARD!

Okay, so naming a third child is hard!

I have a short list of names that I like, but the hubby has pretty much vetoed most of them.

The hubby is pretty much set on names, but I go back and forth on them.

We have kind of avoided this subject the whole pregnancy, but with less than four weeks to go, I feel like we need to finalize a name.

With Hannah, we agreed on the name pretty quickly.

With Colson, it took a bit more work. We changed our minds on a name (you can read about it HERE and HERE) and it took some convincing on my part to get the hubby on board with Colson...but now we can't imagine him being named anything else.

We want our third child's name to follow the feel of Hannah and Colson's name but the problem is that Hannah is a solid classic name and Colson is a pretty rare name. Yet, I feel like they go very well together. ???? Maybe its just me.

But how to you come up with names to follow the same feel of names that are essentially on the opposite ends of the name spectrum???

Yeah, it's hard! Or maybe I'm making it harder than it should be?

The other problem is that we are not sharing our names. We haven't really even talked about names with people at all. It's driving the grandmas crazy and honestly it is starting to drive me crazy. I know that our child's name is up to us and really if someone didn't like our name choice, I wouldn't change it because of them...but I feel like if we were able to talk it out with others we might be able to come to a conclusion.

So, I am open to name suggestions! :o) The only thing we don't want is for this child to be one of 20 in their class with that name, so we try to stay away from top names.

Please help! :o)

  1. you can share with me....I'll keep quiet on the matter. Nick will never know. :oP You can always give some options....ones your considering and ones your not so I won't even know the front runners. I'm amazed we were able to agree on Ethan....he has a unique middle name and that made it harder.

  2. It's sooo hard naming a baby! We agreed right away on Emma's name. And with Alyx it was a little more difficult. We knew if we were going to have a boy it was going to Alex. When we found out it was a girl, we were like, "Well why can't we still name her Alyx, but using a Y instead of an E." And we have had a few people look at us like we are crazy when we tell them we are naming her Alyx. And it's been obvious a few people that we have told what her name is that they clearly don't like it. But it's different and Brian and I like it, and we will not change it =) It's a difficult decision, but you will come up with a name and i'm sure it's going to be a great name =)

  3. Right there with you mama!! Our list was 27 names long and I think we are finally set on a name for this little one. I just had a running list that everytime I saw or heard of a name that I liked, I would add it to the list. Every few weeks I would give the list to Hubby and he would star the ones that he liked. Then we narrowed it down to two names. I liked one and he liked the other. I wasn't sold on his, but after letting it sink in for a while and saying her name, she became that name to me.

You have it hard because you need to agree on two different names, not just one. Have you tried You can put in the names of your children now and it will give you names that would go with those. Maybe try searching for classic or old fashioned names that are still strong, but aren't used as much these days. Or take a name that you like, but may be too common for your taste, and find a similar alternative to it. For example, I know you guys debated Greyson before. Maybe shortening it to just "Grey" or a similar "G" name. Or maybe a girl, you might like "Claire" but its too popular. Changing it to "Clara".

I also went to the library and checked out several different name books and just went through each of them. Again, made a list of ones that I liked.

But really, it is hard naming babies when you don't want something super popular. It gets harder and harder the more you have! :) Goodluck!!

  4. trust me, i know how hard it is!!

if you ever want to talk names, let me know! i have a bunch of names we liked for our kids...and i don't know your family :)

I'd love to hear from you!! :o)
